Inhibition of GC production reverses the decrease in keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation induced by psychological stress (PS). PS results in a decrease in proliferation cell nuclear antigen (PCNA)-positive cells in the basal layer of the epidermis. Again, coadministration of antalarmin with PS reverses the PS-induced decline in PCNA immunostaining (A, B, and C). Decreased expression of epidermal differentiation-related proteins, involucrin (D, E, and F), loricrin (G, H, and I), and filaggrin (J, K, and L) by PS was reversed by coadministration of RU-486 with PS. Statistical significance in PCNA immunostaining was determined by Student's t-test (n = 4). Scale bar = 100 μm.
